APPLICATION GUIDELINES

  • INTRODUCTION

The G Kandasamy Scholarship Award aims to inspire union leaders and members of the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) towards lifelong learning and to support them in pursuing academic aspirations at recognised institutions. The Scholarship is funded by the G Kandasamy Endowment Fund.

  • LEVEL AND FIELD OF STUDY

The Scholarship supports first full-time or part-time diploma or degree programmes offered by local polytechnics, universities or EduTrust-certified private education institutions. Applicants who are already pursuing a course may apply for the remaining course fees from the point of successful application. No retrospective payment will be made.

  • ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must:

  • Be a fully paid-up AUPE member with at least 3 years of membership.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and good character.
  • Not hold any other scholarship, bursary or similar award.
  • Be currently pursuing or have secured admission into a recognized institution.
  • VALUE OF AWARDS

The Scholarship covers 80% of unfunded course fees on a reimbursement basis, capped at $15,000 inclusive of GST. Up to two awards may be granted each year.

  • SERVICE COMMITMENT
    (i) Recipients must act as AUPE Ambassadors and assist with AUPE orientation briefings, members’ engagement activities or annual functions at least twice yearly.

(ii) Recipients below 35 years old are required to join the YAUPE Committee and serve for a minimum of two years during their study period.

  • DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
    (i) Applicant should submit the following:
  • Completed application form,
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Copies of educational certificates and transcripts/results
  • Letter of employment from the employer
  • Detailed outline of the course of study
  • Letter of acceptance or provisional acceptance from the university/polytechnic/institution of higher learning
  • Letter of recommendation from current supervisor/employer
  • Personal Statement to share with us, in not more than 1000 words, on:
    • What are your aspirations and what you hope to achieve with your studies.
    • How you can contribute to the Labour Movement and the workplace with your skills and competencies; and
    • How have you demonstrated leadership qualities or have taken higher responsibilities.

    Selection Window: 1 April 2026 – 30 April 2026
    Announcement of Awardees: May 2026
