APPLICATION GUIDELINES
  • Introduction
    1. The G Kandasamy Scholarship aims to inspire union leaders and members of the Amalgamated Union of Public Employees (AUPE) towards lifelong learning and to
    support them in pursuing their aspirations and academic education at recognised universities/polytechnics/institutes of higher learning.2. The Scholarship is funded by the G Kandasamy Endowment Fund that was established for the education advancement of union leaders and members.Level and Field of Study3. This Scholarship is for full-time/part-time diploma/degree with local polytechnics/universities or EduTrust-certified private education institutions.

    4. Applicants who are currently pursuing a diploma or degree programme may also apply for this Scholarship for the balance of his/her course fees from the point of
    successful application. No retrospective payment will be made for any course fees incurred prior to successful application.

    Eligibility Criteria
    5. An applicant should fulfil the following criteria:
    a. Be a fully paid-up union member of AUPE with at least 3 years membership tenure;
    b. Has leadership qualities or commitment to serving the community and be of good character;
    c. Not be a holder of any scholarship, bursary or other similar award given by
    Government, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) or any other body;
    d. Should already be in the course of study or applying for admission to a
    university/polytechnic/institute of higher learning for the course of study. The
    award will only be given to an applicant who has successfully gained
    admission into the institute of higher learning.

    Value of Awards

    6. The Scholarship will cover 80% of the course fees on reimbursement basis, subject to a cap of $15,000 inclusive of GST.
    7. There will be up to 2 awards per year.

    Service Commitment

    8. Recipient of the Scholarship will:
    • Be an ambassador of AUPE at his/her respective workplace; and
    • Assist AUPE at orientation briefings, members’ engagement activities or annual AUPE functions at least twice a year for the duration of the study.

    Documents Required for Application

    9. Applicant should submit the following:
    • Completed application form;
    • Curriculum Vitae;
    • Copies of educational certificates and transcripts/results;
    • Letter of employment from the employer
    • Detailed outline of the course of study;
    • Letter of acceptance or provisional acceptance from the university/polytechnic/institution of higher learning;
    • Letter of recommendation from current supervisor/employer;
    i. Personal Statement to share with us, in not more than 1000 words, on: What are your aspirations and what you hope to achieve with your studies;
    ii. How you can contribute to the Labour Movement and the workplace with your skills and competencies; and
    iii. How you have demonstrated leadership qualities or have taken higher responsibilities.

    Application Deadline

    10. All applications must be submitted to AUPE by 30 September 2026. Incomplete or late submissions will not be considered. Please click HERE to apply.

    Decision of the Selection Committee

    11. The decision of the Selection Committee shall be final. Only successful applicants will be notified.
